Claudia Tenney Shows Insensitivity to Communities Impacted by Gun Violence
October 29, 2018-- Claudia Tenney accepted the NRA’s endorsement at the Binghamton Rifle Club, the same location that the perpetrator of the American Civic Association Shooting practiced before taking the lives of 13 people on April 3, 2009.
"The American Civic Association shooting in 2009 was an assault on the greater Binghamton community and for Claudia Tenney to accept the NRA's endorsement at the same location where the perpetrator of this shooting practiced is appalling and insulting,” said Danika McMurray, lifelong Binghamton resident and president of College Democrats of New York.
Tenney also accepted this endorsement just two days after the Tree of Life Synagogue Shooting in Pittsburgh that took the lives of 11 innocent Jewish-Americans. Tenney’s silence on the Pittsburgh shooting coupled with this morning’s press conference demonstrates that Tenney cares more about pleasing her big money donors than supporting her constituents. As a representative, she should be able to put her pro-gun beliefs, and her dedication to donors, aside to stand in solidarity with communities impacted by gun violence.
We, as College Democrats of New York, urge our supporters and members to volunteer as much as possible in the final nine days until the election to ensure that ignorance, bigotry, anti-semitism, and Claudia Tenney are voted out of office on November 6th.
