Defend Democracy with College Democrats of New York
January 15, 2018-- College Democrats of New York will host “Defend Democracy” at The Half Pint in NYC on Wednesday, January 23rd from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Members of College Democrats of New York will be joined by Congressman Jerrold Nadler, candidates for NYC Public Advocate and members of the New York State Assembly, Michael Blake and Latrice Walker, and New York State Assemblyman Dick Gottfried.
In the 2018 midterms, Democrats across the country campaigned on a promise to Defend Democracy. The election results on November 6th proved that the promise resonated with Americans. Democrats took back control of the House, seven governor’s mansions, and at least 370 legislative seats.
To deliver on their campaign promises, House Democrats introduced the For The People Act, which will reduce corporate influence in politics, make it easier to vote nationwide, and enact tougher ethics regulations on federal politicians. Here in New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 2019 Justice Agenda will tackle many of the same issues.
Join College Democrats of New York at Defend Democracy to help ensure these reforms are passed. The money raised will be used to launch on advocacy campaign and fund lobbying trips for their hundreds of members to fight for a democracy that works in the people’s interests, not the special interests.
