A Joint Statement on Former Rep. Lee Zeldin’s nomination for EPA Administrator

The College Democrats of New York & Stony Brook College Democrats are concerned with Donald Trump’s choice of Lee Zeldin, former GOP congressman and failed gubernatorial candidate, to lead the Environmental Protection Agency of the United States due to his lack of qualifications in the field of Environmental Science and his climate-denialist, pro-fracking stances. We believe that Zeldin’s policies will have lasting negative effects on our futures and the livelihoods of Americans for decades to come.

Zeldin’s inaction on climate issues is striking.  Zeldin’s former constituency on Long Island was ravaged by unprecedented flooding this year. His home region is deeply impacted by rising sea levels and changing currents, but his track record is one that prioritizes corporate profits over American lives.

Zeldin’s inaction in office on this issue, and disregard for the increasing threat of climate change shows his leadership of the EPA may only worsen an already critical situation. We hope, for the sake of America, to be proven wrong.
